This advice applies to all types of crisis situations regardless of whether they are related to terrorism. Many people have highlighted potential targets in Suffolk, but the reality is that terrorists could attack anywhere using any means. Part of their strategy is to create fear of an attack when in fact attacks are very rare, but well-reported in the media. The agencies that make up the Suffolk Resilience Forum have been working closely together, and with other response agencies, for many years looking at the way they all respond to emergencies in Suffolk. The local authorities are continuously looking at how they support and care for the community in the event of a major incident. There are tried and tested procedures in place for a range of crisis situations and these have been developed to ensure the same level of help will be available should the crisis be terrorist-related. This provides us with the ability to meet a wide range of highly unexpected events. Should you suspect that something has happened the advice is:
Go in, Stay in, Tune in
More information is also available from the Government's website which deals with emergency planning issues http://www.ukresilience.info/home.htm Recent news items have suggested that you keep tinned food, bottled water, a torch and a battery radio. This is prudent advice for all sorts of emergencies, such as a power cut, and should not be seen as evidence of a significant increase in the risk of terrorist attack. |
