What is Emergency Planning?

When an emergency occurs, as they do somewhere in the country suprisingly frequently, the emergency services (Fire, Police, Ambulance or Coastguard) deal with it quickly and efficiently. These can include:

  • major traffic accidents;
  • fires;
  • medical emergencies;
    • and
  • serious incidents on our many miles of coastline.

Normally the local authorities (Suffolk County Council, Ipswich Borough Council, Waveney District Council, etc.) do not get involved in such incidents.

It is when a major emergency takes place that is beyond the capacity of the emergency services to deal with unaided that the local authority need to activate their emergency plans to support the emergency services.
